January 01, 2009 -- Novavox Limited, a leading supplier of reliable Open Source telephony equipment, today announced the withdrawal of the X100P Special Edition (SE) 1-port FXO card from its product range. Novavox started selling X100P Special Edition (SE) cards over a year ago to provide a very low cost FXO card for home and testing use. A significant amount of time and resources were invested in developing detailed user / troubleshooting guides and creating patches to overcome X100P card limitations. However, in the current economic climate it is no longer commercially viable to continue to sell the X100P SE product.
One of the main reasons for this is that the number of customers reporting X100P IRQ sharing and motherboard interoperability issues has increased over the last few months. These issues can take a significant amount of time and technical resource to overcome, which is is unacceptable, particularly in today’s economic climate. The other key reason is that the £GBP has fallen dramatically against the $USD over the past few months causing the wholesale price of X100P SE cards to increase by over 30%. Customers looking for a very low cost card are not likely to want to bear this extra cost, and will instead purchase lower cost X100P cards from alternative sources such as eBay.
For Novavox customers with X100P SE cards that are still within their 1 year warranty, in the event of a fault a replacement card or refund will still be provided.
For customers looking for a new low cost FXO card for Asterisk/Trixbox, we recommend the OpenVox A400P01 4-port PCI card which comes with a single FXO module. The OpenVox A400P01 card is more expensive than the X100P SE, but offers significant advantages including:
- Support for UK caller ID and global line standards straight out of the box without needing to use any Asterisk / Zaptel patches
- Easily upgradeable to support up to four FXO / FXS ports due to its modular design
- Significant reduction in installation/configuration time due to not having to overcome IRQ sharing and motherboard interoperability issues
- All OpenVox cards are officially Gold certified for use with Trixbox
- All OpenVox cards come with a 5 year warranty as standard
