Positron Telecom V-Series IP PBX blades are leap forward in the telecommunications market. They are the first product of their kind to offer the full functionality of an Asterisk® IP PBX on a single PCI card with integrated telephony ports, hardware-based echo cancellation and an Ethernet interface. By integrating the Linux, Asterisk®, Echo Canceler, Ethernet (for PCI and LAN), Telephone ports (FXS) and Gateway functionality (4 ISDN BRI) Positron Telecom have created the first standalone solution that can be installed in any PC with any Operating System - no special drivers are required.
The Positron Telecom IP PBX blades are ideally positioned for the SMB market offering a range of interfaces including FXO, ISDN and E1. The V-214 provides 4 x ISDN BRI ports for connecting to ISDN lines (TE mode) or ISDN telephones (NT mode), and 1 x FXS port for connecting to a Plain Old Telephony (POTS) analogue telephone or fax machines along with hardware-based echo cancellation for all ports.
IP PBX Blade Technology
The Positron blades are operating system independent and as all processing takes place on the blade. No CPU or memory resources (other than power) are required from the host PC and multiple blades can co-exist within the same host PC providing a highly scalable architecture. Positron has developed a Master / Slave application that allows two identical boards to synchronize and monitor each other for the purpose of backup and automatic failover in event of a failure.

The products are priced at a level which provides a lower cost per port as well as increased reliability and security, improved quality of service, and the ability to gain features and capabilities that other vendors have not yet been able to deliver on a card or gateway.
The Positron blades offer an even more compelling ROI when deployed in a virtualized environment (e.g. VMware, KVM, Xen or VirtualBox) in that they deliver a true virtualized telephony system. The blade works seamlessly in a VMware environment because it uses Ethernet as the primary communication interface between the virtual server and the real server. Traditionally there has been a breakdown in the communication path between the application running on a virtual server and the media gateway which connects to the telephony network. This breakdown is caused by traffic passing through a virtual Ethernet card, an Ethernet card on the server, a switch and eventually the media gateway. Voice, is very sensitive to jitter, latency and packet loss and this architecture leads to all three.
The unique offering by Positron has the PCI card inside the server and connecting to the virtual server through Ethernet which provides the shortest data path possible, additionally terminating the RTP traffic on the card without CPU load on the host server. Positron is the only vendor capable of supporting this architecture.
